Ayrshire Province v Renfrewshire xii Province : Harry Hart Trophy

03 November 2016

This Report on the Annual Competition between Ayrshire and Renfrewshire Provinces from Andrew Kerr.

Jim Boswell took on David Robertson's Alternative CC rink, Billy Howat played the Reform rink skipped by Austen Brown and I took on Walter Miller's rink from Between the Sheets CC.

Jim's rink of Neil Beattie, Colin Naismith and Ian Alexander raced into an early lead but the Alternative CC pegged them back and rather than risk losing with a last stone take out, Jim settled for a peel at 7-7.

Billy's rink too raced into an early lead with the Reform rink taking time to get to grip with the ice. However, with Gavin Morton playing his best game of the season (according to Gavin !), and with Sue Howat and Jean Morton doing the business at lead and second, Billy kept the pressure on and ran out 13-3 winner.

My own rink featured Kirsty Letton at third, Aileen McCorkell at two and Charles Sutherland leading. We had a very tight game exchanging singles over the first four ends before the Between the Sheets rink took two further singles to go into the last end two up. Fortunately, we managed to take a three and won by a single shot at 5-4.

With an overall score of 25 to Ayrshire and 14 to Renfrewshire the trophy came back home to Ayrshire and into Billy's custody as the highest up rink.

Well done to all three rinks.

Andrew
