Friday is the Official Opening Ceremony for the Sochi Winter Olympics, but Monday 10th is when the curling starts.  If you’re an early riser then the first games can be seen at 5.00 o’clock on Monday morning.  Great Britain’s men take on the hosts Russia then and later that day, 3.00 pm, will face Sweden.

The full schedule for the men can be found here and for the women here.  Don’t forget that Sochi time is 4 hours ahead of GMT.

Both the Men and Women have 10 teams in their competition. There will be a Round Robin play off, with the top four teams qualifying for the two semi finals on 19th February.

We are delighted to confirm that Ayr Curling Club’s Special Foreign Correspondent, Tom Andrews, will be reporting on a daily basis (maybe!) directly from his luxury cruise liner moored at Sochi.  Tom and Karen will of course be more concerned with supporting their son Scott, who is a key member of the British team.

The full team is David Murdoch, with Greg Drummond, Scott Andrews, Michael Goodfellow and alternate Tom Brewster.

The women’s team is skipped by Eve Muirhead, with Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams, Claire Hamilton and alternate Lauren Gray.

We have set up a special Winter Olympics Section in the Website which you can access by clicking here or on the tab above.  We will have more articles, reports and results shown there as the games develop.

In the meantime, I’m sure I speak for every curler in Ayr and Scotland when I say that we all wish Scott and the members of both teams the very best for a successful Olympics.  We are behind them all the way, as they strive for Gold.
